Hmmm, so do we even know if they made it into the hyve boxes? We know they were printed (obviously), but I wonder if they actually made it to the production as far as early distribution?

My assumption is they did pack out with the Hyve but in a second or third run. My thinking is the first wave of product packed out with the World of Symbion Mantys version mini, second wave with the WoS regular version and every shipment after that packed out with the character specific minis.
With the figures it makes sense that we'd see a lot of the character specific minis because they sold through and continued shipping. With the Hyve however and it's large size and higher price I think it's safe to assume that not a lot of those were being restocked so the majority available for sale at the time and even today would have the WoS mini.
For the longest time I wasn't sure if the Hyve mini was ever made either. Some original art from the mini came up for sale proving it was intended to be made and then finally the actual Hyve mini showed up. You and I were probably bidding against each other on that one, sorry for all of your sleepless nights! Lol

Ahh, that makes a lot of sense. I was always under the impression that it was "pulled" from production, I never deduced it may have not been ready for production. The reason I was asking is because I have the oppertunity to buy 2 sealed hyves. I'm conflicted because of the small chance of hitting the mini comic jackpot. Also I'm gun shy because of the obnoxious price tags on these things. Seems the price of mib hyves basically doubled in the last 2-3 years.
That is hilarious it came down to us a few years back on eBay. You are lucky I lost my focus on that auction, I was prepared to go MUCH higher on that one! In the end, if I had to lose, I'm glad it was to you. I think I contacted the buyer through ebay several months later, harassing him to part with it lol.......

So, check this out. I was doin some image searching, lookin for packaging variations. I thought these might be worth mentioning. The differences I was paying attention to is in the upper left hand corner. I was only looking at u.s. Packaging. The first, the only one I've seen like this has a blue sticker over the required tools. The next, which I believe to be the most common, has a sticker noting that pliers are required. Now the third, which I found interesting has the corrected tool list and the points have been added to the front. Possibly making this the more "recent" release? Edit: when the pics loaded, it transposed the second and third pic. So the third pic is the most common one I believe.........

Nice catch! I've never really paid that much attention to the Hyve boxes. I think there are two different versions of the directions that came with it but aside from that I didn't know about the tool stickers and corrections. I think it's pretty safe to assume that the one with everything printed without stickers is the latest version and probably your best chance of pulling a Hyve mini out of. Now I kind of want to pull out my Hyve to see which version I have and track down the others...thanks! Lol I won't though, those things take up way too much real estate!

I know exactly what you mean, I'm a total completist, but I certainly don't have a room to dedicate to a hyve collection! (Cool as that would be.......) I just have my one sealed hyve. And as per our conversation, I'm leaving it sealed. Pretty convinced it is the WOS version. I've been wanting a loose one for display, and was going to pick up another sealed version in hopes of scoring the mini. Looks like I'm on the hunt for the "corrected" version. The 2 I was looking at are the "pliers sticker" version, as is mine. Not those overpriced ones on eBay at the moment, although those are "pliers sticker" versions to. One is opened with the WOS, so that kinda confirms what we were thinking......

I finally did it!!!!!, I've hunted down the hyve mini!! And, we were correct. As best as I can tell from my research, the "pliers" version is the earlier release and contains the WOS mini. I finally found a sealed "corrected" version with the points added to the art on the front and it contained the ever elusive hyve mini. Pretty proud of myself right now
